Sheep & Wool Camp is 5 days of hands-on training, instruction and resources for those wanting to work with sheep as a tool for land management, fibre and meat production. Hosted by Ferme Fiola Farm and Long Way Homestead

Please fill out the application form at the bottom of this page. Once completed you will receive an email with further details of accommodations and travel arrangements. A registration fee will need to be paid after that to ensure your spot. Payment needed in full by February 25th, 2026

Sheep Camp activities will occur at the two host sites - Long Way Homestead and Ferme Fiola Farm - in Ste. Genevieve, MB (approx. 45 minutes east of Winnipeg).
Mid-June in rural Manitoba is a beautiful time to be on a farm. The days are long with sunlight that lingers past ten o’clock and cotton candy skies that are breathtaking. The air carries the sweet, earthy scent of clover and fresh-cut hay, and prairie wildflowers are just starting to bloom. Early morning birdsong is the perfect way to start your day with the sound of red-wing blackbirds, meadowlarks, sand hill cranes and robins.
Ste. Genevieve, or “la poche aux lièvres” meaning Pocket of Rabbits a nod to the history of this land that was once a formidable hunting ground for jackrabbits - is at the edge of the Boreal forest. The landbase is miles of farmland, and large stands of poplar trees, and then leading into rocky, low-lying wetland. A beautiful habitat for many wildlife and bird populations and a perfect backdrop to a sheep & wool camp.

Sheep & Wool Camp includes a camping site on one of the sheep farm sites - you’ll fall asleep to the gentle chorus of boreal frogs and wake to the sound of birds greeting the morning.
Most participants will enjoy a peaceful campsite nestled in the natural landscape, with a limited number of cozy on-site cabins available for rent. If this is too rustic for your tastes, there are some other cabin campsites within a 10 minute drive from sheep camp (you must have your own vehicle for these options)
Outdoor showers offer a brisk, refreshing start (or end) to your day, and a clean outhouse facility is available for campers’ use. Expect warm, sunny days and comfortably cool evenings—perfect for gathering around the fire under Manitoba’s wide prairie sky.

Enjoy local farm to table dinners during Sheep & Wool camp highlighting food from some of our favourite local regenerative farmers. Mealtimes are shared with campers and served buffet style - and we promise to include a recipe for the infamous banana cake from the 2025 camp!
We kick off sheep and wool camp with a welcome BBQ. Included in the camp is 5 dinners and 4 lunches. Participants are responsible for their own breakfast. Ice tea, coffee, and afternoon snacks will be provided during the week. Please feel free to bring your own favourite beverage and enjoy responsibly!
Participants will have access to a shared fridge and microwave on-site.
We’ll do our best to make sure everyone can safely enjoy the meal. If you have a food allergy/concern, please let us know on the application. We’re unable to accommodate dietary preferences.

Sheep camp is hands-on field work and learning. Each day will be 6-7 hours of learning including some classroom and some field work. Please be prepared with adequate foot wear and clothing (a list will be sent to those that register).
We believe that every participant and instructor has something to learn AND something to share. We believe that all participants will get more from the week if they are active contributors to the training and knowledge sharing.
The weather in June can be unpredictable at best. It may be hot or cool, it could be a dry year or lots of rain, we could have mosquitos or not. We plan our days in consideration of the climate and our collective comfort, but also encourage all participants to do as much or as little as they feel comfortable.

Meet the Instructors
Christel Lanthier (she/her/elle) is a Franco-Manitoban multidisciplinary Red River Métis textile artist, hide tanner, mother, shepherdess, and caretaker of land on Treaty One Territory. Her work focuses on the soil to soil cycle.
Anna Hunter is a first - generation sheep farmer and wool mill owner in Eastern Manitoba, Treaty One Territory. She is passionate about building community and connecting rural fibre farmers with urban consumers, fibre artists, and crafters. Anna believes that regenerative agriculture and climate-beneficial food and clothing are integral to moving forward as farmers fibre artists and Manitobans, and she is passionate about growing a vibrant Canadian wool industry. Her first book Sheep, Shepherd and Land, came out in 2023. And her Bestselling book The True Cost of Wool released in June 2025.
